Best Mann (the alter-ego of Massachusett-based producer, composer, multi-instrumentalist, and Prince-devotee Nate Mondschein) is an obsessive over small moments. Merging Art-Rock aesthetics, Hip-Hop-adjacent pocket, and Folk-style storytelling, Nate brings his diverse influences to bear in the form of lush, groove-heavy arrangements encircling observational, evocative lyrics. He likes telling stories about family, and anxiety, and love, and ghosts, and things he can’t remember as well as he wishes he could.
Nate’s self produced debut album under the Best Mann moniker, …And the Sky, is due in the fall of 2019. The album was recorded across 2018 and 2019 at Nate’s studio, Echo Base, and at Ghost Hit Recording in Holyoke, Massachusetts. It was mixed by longtime collaborator and extraordinary mixing/recording engineer Andrew Oedel of Ghost Hit, and mastered by Brian Lucey, the brilliant mastering engineer behind The Black Keys’ “Brothers,” The Kills “Ash & Ice,” and many more. The lead and follow up singles “MCO” and “MST” are out now on all your favorite and least favorite streaming services!
Outside of his Best-Mann-associated activities, Nate is an active songwriter and producer, and the owner/chief operator of Echo Base Production, a full service music production studio out of Western Massachusetts. Nate and Echo Base have worked alongside numerous artists, most recently producing Massachusetts Psych-Rock five-piece Old Flame’s debut LP Young & In Debt, and pop-vocalist-extraordinaire Raycee Jones on the single “On Your Own” (written by Nate and co-produced by Spencer H.). Nate is currently in the studio with folk-songwriter Emma Ayres producing her upcoming release, Encyclopedia of the Broken-Hearted.
As a drummer and bassist, Nate has performed and recorded internationally with a variety of acts, most notably Old Flame, Trot Fox, The Rooks, Spencer H., Josh the Word, Mtali Banda, Sodada, and many more. His performance work spans a vast array of genres, from Motown to Hip-Hop, Indie-Pop to Jazz, Folk to Future-Soul.
